Is Music Therapy Halal or Haram?
Most of the Muslims already know that listening music is Haram(prohibited) in Islam and there is no other opinion in that point But in today’s topic I like to discuss about “Is Music Therapy Halal or Haram?”.
Well most of the Islamic scholars on this topic says that “Music Therapy is haram”. But for medical reasons, it can allowed in certain limitations. We can use music therapy only in much needed situations. If that is only way to safe the patient or it is under compulsion, then we can use that.
I’m going to explain this fact little deeper as you know alcohol is haram in Islam but in few drugs infect in many drugs, alcohol included and it is also not haram under compulsion. Same is the case with music therapy.
You know in most of the special children schools, teachers use music therapy to play with them and this trend is rising really fast. The thing is they don’t check is that right for that specific children or no, they are simply doing with each one. We first need to check whether that specific children have any other way or not.

Assalamu Alaikum
I have been looking for an answer for this question because my son has autism and because he cannot communicate like other children i and others thought that music therapy would help him more to bring out his language skills because i have noticed that he says words more and calms him down when i sing to him. but when i sing to him i have no music but in music therapy there will be music accompanied by the singing. please comment – wa salam alaikum

Walikum Salam,
Well, this is really a difficult thing to say. I don’t want to comment on such thing. Its better if you talked with any highly qualified Ulmah-e-Karam. He can give you best advice.
As far as my opinion, I think it is allowed. because there is no music in it.
Thanks

Music is haram but they scream over loud speakers over 5 times a day.

Mr. Jimi you should need to understand little bit more the difference between Music and Azaan.
Thanks

Why do u compare music to alcohol. 1. Alcohol.is haram in the Quran whereas music isn’t. 2. u can use alcohol for medical purpose but u can’t put music in the same way as it is not haram, 3. Hadith like Bukhari has contradictions if u study it u will know a book with contradictions is not from ALLAH. 4. Please do not say music is haram when u urself are a witness to what good it does. 5. does ALLAH forbid good no Satan does. 6. in the golden age of Islam we had music since but since so called scholars & Hadiths
starts forbidding things like music then ALLAH takes his blessings away & gives it to someone else like the west. 7. Read s34v13 They worked for him as he desired, (making) arches, images, basons as large as reservoirs, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places): “Work ye, sons of David, with thanks! but few of My servants are grateful!” here we are told that SOLOMON PBUATPOA had images made for him but Hadith & scholars say it is haram, at the end of the verse ALLAH says few of his servant are grateful. So be grateful for music ALLAH created it for us. If it was bad then we would have proof. Anyway PEACE

what about QAWALI IT HAS MUSIC IN IT.

Thanks for your comment but I may disagree with you at some part.
It seems that you are saying in part 4, that whatever good for you is all allowed. But we all know Alcohol is good for health (if we use it in limit), but Allah prohibited it. Because there is some aspects hidden as well that our human brain can’t understand. They are out of our limit.
Also seems like you are not believing on hadiths and any scholar’s theories. So I only wanna say in defense of that. These people spent their whole life’s as a student of Islam. They should know better then us. So we have to give respect to their understandings as they know Islam better then us. (Although anything is not ultimate excepts the Holy Quran).
I would like to ask other knowledgeable people what they say about this issue. It will be a really good for all of us.
Allah bless you all.

People Give attention to this very good question as well. Anyone who have knowledge on Qawali and Islam, can give us good overview.
